The Vancouver National Indigenous Day Organizing Committee (NIDOC) was struck to formalize the working relationship between community partners who collaboratively plan an event to bring the Indigenous community together yearly on National Indigenous Day, June 21.

NIDOC was formed to demonstrate the strength of the community and provide leadership for the 2013 celebrations and beyond. The formalization of our community working group into a committee through an MOU enhances opportunities to access funding and donations, utilizing the Vancouver Aboriginal Friendship Centre Society as our host agency through which such funds may be efficiently administered.

As committee members, we are committed to working together to collaboratively plan, promote, and host each year’s annual celebration at Trout Lake Park in East Vancouver.

Our collective goal is to provide an opportunity for the greater community to come together to celebrate National Indigenous Day while sharing cultural teachings amongst all Indigenous people and friends.  We are committed to ensuring that this event is accessible and welcoming to all, and encourages the participation and engagement of diverse community members and organizations.  The event will always be family-orientated and inclusive of all Nations, Indigenous people, and community members.  The event will always be held outside and be a non-partisan event.
